HEURISTICS SELF-SURVEY

The following are descriptions of each of the 10 Nielsen's Heuristics, and a brief analysis of whether or not our site meets such requirements (which it totally does).

You can find these Heuristics here.

Check out our aquaponics usage survey.

1. "Visibility of system status"

2. "Match between system and the real world"

3. "User control and freedom"

4. "Consistency and standards"

5. "Error Prevention"

We've been keeping our site updated regularly.  If you happen to land on a page that we have yet to produce content for, it will say something like, "This is is coming soon," or even better, "This ish is coming really, really soon."  We hope this will keep our readers aware of when they can return to the page and find real stuff to read.

One of our main goals in producing this website was to make the language as accessible as possible.  We may be talking about aquaponics, but our friendly links and guides don't get too technical.  That way, you can roam our site freely and not be confused by jargon.  Additionally, we’ve ensured that all links you are clicking on are both categorized and described very specifically.  For instance, you may not know what heuristics are, but you will know that it is a type of survey as it is categorized under “surveys.”

The Fish Ish Webmistress has made sure that you, the user, can get to any page on our website from that page that you're currently visiting in one click.  And since our site can be a bit temperamental with the "back" button on your browser, there's a link that will take you home when you reach the end of every page that reads, "Take me home."

Check and check.  All of our pages and links are labeled consistently throughout the site, so you're not scratching your head.  Additionally, all text-based links are color-coded like so.

All links have been double-checked for accuracy.  After all, we want to keep you on our site.  In case of an error, Wix will provide you with a message, and you will know to check back later when all is working correctly.

6. "Recognition rather than recall"

7. "Flexibility and efficiency of use"

8. "Aesthetic and minimalist design"

9. "Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors"

10. "Help and documentation"

We addressed this issue in Heuristic 4: users have the ability to navigate to any page from any page on our website, with consistently labeled buttons.

This website transitions smoothly and swiftly from page to page, with a super-sweet fade-in-and-out effect that conjures memories of the best Power Point presentations.

Our main objective for the design of the site was to make it aesthetically interesting but not busy.  We've kept to a calm and simple color scheme, and we try not to have too much going on in any one page.  Hopefully you think so too.  Additionally, we wanted to keep our font simple yet friendly,  For this reason, we chose Noticia Text as our website font, which is known for its readability on the most low res of computer and mobile Internet browsers.

Fortunately, our site is not extensive enough to need a search bar or a help button.  Therefore, this is not particularly applicable.  But did we mention that you can get from any page to any page at any given moment on our site.  Well, you can.  We think it's pretty cool.  We hope you also think it's cool.

Let us know what you think!  Tumblr-message us, and see our response on the blog.  We love hearing from you.
